The scope of Professional Behavior Services includes:

  • Conducting a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA): A thorough assessment to identify the underlying causes of challenging behaviors.

  • Creating and Implementing a Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP): Based on the FBA, the PBSP introduces functional alternatives to address challenging behaviors and includes initial training for those implementing the plan.

  • Ongoing Maintenance of the Positive Behavior Support Plan: Ensures the PBSP remains effective through periodic review and adjustments, as indicated by individual needs.

The Oregon Intervention System (OIS) is Oregon's standardized training framework for implementing Positive Behavior Support and Intervention strategies. It is designed for professionals and caregivers who support adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) who may exhibit challenging behaviors.

OIS provides an evidence-based approach to equip designated support persons with the skills needed to understand, prevent, and effectively respond to behavioral challenges. Through Positive Behavior Support techniques, OIS promotes safety, enhances the quality of care, and encourages constructive, proactive approaches to behavior management, fostering greater stability and well-being for individuals with I/DD.
