Star of Hope has been helping individuals with developmental disabilities in Coos County reach their potential since 1964.
What began as a grassroots group of parents of young adults with developmental disabilities has evolved into an organization that offers comprehensive services, ranging from residential, vocational, supported living, and supported employment in the community.
To provide community support services in Southwest Oregon to adults with developmental disabilities in a manner which encourages independence, productivity, and physical integration.
To do this, Star of Hope has developed a working philosophy that guides program development and organizational decision-making.
Star of Hope’s philosophy is to protect and nurture the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development of each individual by providing the training and experiences that will enable adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to:
- Develop their physical, intellectual, social capabilities, work, and living skills to the fullest extent possible.
- Develop emotional maturity commensurate with social and intellectual growth.
- Whenever possible, develop skills, habits and attitudes essential for integration into contemporary society.
Star of Hope’s goal for every program is to help each person realize their own potential for growth.
